The Staff Nurse Interest Group (SNIG) representing all regions in Ontario, believes that staff nurses must take a leadership role during this time of transition when there is an acute need for renewal and reinvesting in ourselves and in our profession. Therefore, our mandate is to strengthen communication, caring for ourselves and for others. We value continuing education and professional growth and development. Therefore, this year SNIG has two scholarships available to its membership.

We strive to achieve our mandate by offering an ongoing exchange of ideas at RNAO’s Annual General Meeting, workshops, newsletters, representation at the RNAO Assemblies and at various conferences sponsored by RNAO. General meetings are also held as well as an annual dinner meeting in January which provides members with the opportunity to meet members of RNAO’s Board of Directors.

SNIG also believes that the work environment should be meaningful and rewarding. Therefore, another goal of our group is to build solidarity among staff nurses in order to be proactive in influencing change in the workplace.

Student members who join SNIG as they begin their professional career gain valuable insight. The generalist focus of SNIG allows them to network, express their concerns and issues and to have opportunities to participate in decisions that will affect their future professional lives. We are seeking nurses with experience to buddy with new SNIG members to provide mentorship.
