In March 1999, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care announced the establishment of a nurse training and education fund for RNs and RPNs in response to the Nursing Task Force's earlier recommendations. The RNAO is delighted to be involved in this initiative. The fund is to be used to provide ongoing funding to nurses to increase their knowledge and professional skills to enhance quality of care and services provided within Ontario. If you are undertaking professional development course(s) and/or program(s), you are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1500. Nurses who have not received $1,500 from this fund will be given priority. Nurses who have received full funding in the previous year(s) will be considered with less priority than those nurses that have not received full funding. This funding can be used towards tuition or course fees as well as registration fees for conferences or CNA certification examination fees. Please note that proof of completion must be supplied for courses and proof of attendance must be supplied for conferences. Please note that NEI funding is not guaranteed. All eligible claims will be considered and reimbursed following MOHLTC guidelines and criteria as outlined on page 2 of the application form. Reimbursement may be forwarded at anytime during the funding year, and the amount received may not be the amount initially requested. The amount of funding received represents that maximum available per applicant once all criteria, documentation and funding are considered. It is not necessary to be a RNAO member to apply for funding. Health care employers who have paid for education for staff are also eligible for reimbursement. Employers are able to access their own "Employer Applications". IMPORTANT DEADLINE INFORMATION: Please submit requests for reimbursement within 90 days (3 months) after the end date of the specific course, conference or workshop in question. Submissions must include a completed application form as well as copies of both receipt of payment and proof of successful completion for the course, conference or workshop to be considered for reimbursement. The form can be accessed from our website, or, can be mailed directly to individuals as requested.
