How to Join MCNIG
The Maternal Childbirth Nurses' Interest Group is committed to promoting high quality family-centred care for childbearing families. In the past, MCNIG has made contributions to Health Canada Guidelines and RNAO statements on Breastfeeding, Postpartum Depression, Midwifery, Early Discharge, Safe Sleeping for Infants, and Vitamin D supplements for Breastfed Babies, to name a few.
As each new membership year approaches (November 1), we hope all current MCNIG members will remember to renew their membership and will encourage their colleagues to join our group. Perhaps it would help to think of some of the benefits of belonging. As a MCNIG member you:
- Can network with other nurses working with childbearing families.
- Are part of a group who advocates for the conditions that enable provision of the highest quality care for your patients/clients.
- Receive a newsletter informing you of current issues, practices and continuing education opportunities.
- Are eligible for financial assistance/scholarships for continuing education.
- Even get a free breakfast at the RNAO AGM!
Membership in MCNIG includes all the advantages of belonging to your professional association, RNAO. You are part of an organization which speaks for all nurses in Ontario. All members are protected by the Canadian Nurses Protective Society and are eligible to sign up for the Legal Assistance Program for assistance with legal fees related to nursing practice. This is an especially important benefit for those nurses who are not covered by ONA malpractice insurance such as those working in independent practice, physician’s offices, industry, education, or administration. As well you can receive discounted rates for professional development programs and for personal insurance plans. Additional benefits of belonging to RNAO are described at www.rnao.org.
The cost of joining RNAO is 10-20% less for members of interest groups. If you don’t want to pay all at once, you can pay with a credit card or arrange to have monthly payments taken out of your bank account automatically. Applications to join will be mailed to current members as well as available online at RNAO's website or from members of the executive of the MCNIG. We are excited to have our membership growing and count on your continued interest and support. ort.

How to join as a student
For students enrolled in a basic nursing program, RNAO membership is just $20! Student membership automatically includes membership to "Nursing Students of Ontario".
Membership to MCNIG is free for one year, for students joining MCNIG for the first time, and $5 each year thereafter.
