6th Phase Completed
We are pleased to announce that we have successfully completed the 6th phase of the Nursing and eHealth project that has been funded by the Ministry of Health and Longer Term Care and from eHealth Ontario..
Overseen by an Advisory Committee, the overall aim of the project is to enhance the nursing profession’s involvement in all aspects of eHealth and to support nurses to take a leadership role in the adoption of eHealth in all health-care settings.
ClinicalConnect (CC) has evolved very quickly into a robust real-time information delivery system for patient health information across LHIN 3 and 4, with over 2 million patients, 28 regional hospitals, and Oncology & CCAC records.
The data is aggregated across 28 hospitals in Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Norfolk, Burlington, Brantford, Kitchener, Cambridge and Guelph as well as the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).

In 2005 with the selection and implementation of the software for the electronic health record (EHR) at St. Joseph's at Fleming, two principles predominated:
The RNAO is embarking on an exciting initiative to develop nursing order sets to facilitate nurses' access to the best available evidence to inform their practice at the point-of-care.
Eighteen of these nursing order sets will be available in the spring of 2012.
During phase 6 of the 2010-2011 Nursing and eHealth project, the Nursing and eHealth team conducted an environmental scan related to RNAO's Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs) and Technology to explore how we can better harness technology to enable BPG implementation and sustained use for strong client outcomes.
This work was led by Dr. Tazim Virani, RN, MScN, PhD, Principal Consultant, Tazim Virani and Associates.
Advancing Nursing Practice Through Electonic Orders- The MNCYN Experience" Best practice begins at the time an order is written and follows through to point of care. Each member of the healthcare team has a role in utilizing current practices and research to create successful patient outcomes.
With that in mind, the Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Youth Network (MNCYN, Network) recognized that promoting best practice throughout Southwestern Ontario was something important for its members, including London Health Sciences Centre, an RNAO BPSO® designate organization.
Preparing to Cross the BRIDGE In 2008-2009, Bruyère Continuing Care embarked on an exciting goal to implement an electronic patient record to support better patient care..
When fully implemented in 2014, we will be the first continuing care hospital in Canada to launch the latest version from the software provider; MEDITECH.
RNAO is excited to announce that it is developing a nursing quality measurement program to foster technology-enabled indicator measurement of client and nurse outcomes.
Nursing Quality Indicators for Research and Evaluation (NQuIRE), a central data repository and e-reporting system, will collect, analyze, and report comparative data on nursing-sensitive indicators reflecting the structure, process, and outcomes of nursing care resulting from RNAO Best Practice Guideline (BPG) implementation in Best Practice Spotlight Organizations® (BPSO®s).
eDocumentation is the answerIt is 7:00am and the mad rush begins. The nursing station is crowded with various professionals ranging from nurses, residents, students, and physicians, all of whom want to get to that very same chart pertaining to room 452-1.
At this moment, documentation needs to be completed, orders need to be transcribed, lab results need to be examined, and appropriate hand offs need to be made in the midst of ringing call bells.
The Nursing and eHealth project team is excited to inform you about the Faculty eHealth Resource that will soon be available.
The Faculty eHealth Resource was developed under the leadership of Dr. Lynn Nagle, President, Nagle and Associates Inc., who worked with a panel of educators and informatics experts who contributed to the content and format of the resource throughout the development period.
BORN Ontario: The best possible beginnings for lifelong health!Increasingly, e-health initiatives are benefiting from the expertise of nurses, and the implementation of a new maternal-child information system in the province of Ontario is no exception.
The Better Outcomes Registry and Network (BORN) Ontario is launching its new information system this fall and will capitalize on the expertise of nurses and other health care providers at over 109 hospitals delivering birthing or specialized neonatal services.
Content for the PDA version of RNAO's best practice guidelines are continually being updated to reflect currently evidence. Don't forget to "sync" your mobile device to obtain these updates.

The purchase cost of $2.99 provides access to all the RNAO's clinical and HWE best practice guidelines.
