It is evident as we wrap up the fourth phase of the Nursing and eHealth Project, funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, that we have effectively increased the nursing profession's understanding of and full participation in Ontario's eHealth Strategy and supported nurses to take a leadership role in the adoption of communication and information systems in all health-care settings.

The project team has embarked on a number of important initiatives throughout this year.

Ontario's Critical Care Information System (CCIS), a key initiative of the provincial Critical Care Strategy, is a real-time performance measurement system that supports resource utilization management for critical care units and Critical Care Response Teams.

It enables the electronic collection of hospital and patient-specific critical care data across the province, which is used to generate real-time and historical reports on indicators including bed occupancy, delayed discharges, readmission rates, and outcomes.

Promoting Interprofessional e-Learning in Long Term Care

The purpose of this article is to highlight the ways one organization employed computer technology to identify inter-professional staff learning needs and to describe the positive response of staff to using e-learning to meet core competencies at the Veterans Centre of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

In 2007, the Veterans Centre (VC) of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre voluntarily submitted themselves to the MoH Facility Standards for LTC for the province of Ontario.

'Technology Drill Down' days at The Ottawa Hospital: An end user Engagement Strategy

The Technology Drill Down (TD2) process engages front line staff in the discussion of appropriate technologies that could increase efficiency in the delivery of care and safety at the bedside.

The TD2 exercise asks participants to identify their current state processes, brainstorm their future desired state processes and identify technologies that could help to close the gap between the two.
