Nursing and eHealth Champion Network
A key aspect of the Nursing and eHealth Project is the development of an eHealth Champion Network.
The goal of this Network, which is modeled on the highly successful RNAO Best Practice Guidelines Champion Program, is to support understanding, acceptance and adoption of informatics in point-of-care activities for nurses and other members of the health team and to help identify effective support strategies for colleagues in the workplace.
Ontario Nurses Informatics GroupThe Ontario Nursing Informatics Group (ONIG) held their Annual General Meeting at the RNAO home office on December 8, 2006. With well over 50 nurses in attendance much enthusiasm was expressed about the high profile of informatics in health care and the increasing focus on informatics and quality care.

Teleprimary Care Project Findings Workshop "The Time is Right: Expanding the use of Telehealth in Primary Health Care"Teleprimary Care, the use of telehealth technology in the primary health care setting, was an innovative two year Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Primary Health Care Transition Fund demonstration project.
The aim of the project was to investigate the utility of telehealth technology applied to the primary health care setting.
RNAO´s Nursing and eHealth SurveyOntario's nurses had an opportunity to share their views about technology, information management, nursing and health care through the on-line Nursing and eHealth survey opened from January 30th to February 18th, 2007.
The Nursing and eHealth project team developed an on-line survey tool to explore issues related to nurses' views about, and their degree of involvement in eHealth and informatics initiatives in health care.
Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care (HOBIC) is a component of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Health Results Team. HOBIC was established to identify nursing-sensitive health outcomes for inclusion on administrative databases.
By March 31, 2007, 25 organizations in four sectors (acute care, complex continuing care, long-term care and home care) will be collecting outcome measures electronically.
The Nursing and eHealth Advisory Committee under the lead of committee members Sally Remus and Peggy White has developed key messages related to nursing and ehealth.
The purpose of these key messages is to give voice to nursing´s views about the link between ehealth and quality care; nurses´ role in developing, testing and using point of care applications; and the importance for nurses in all roles and sectors to be involved in the ehealth agenda locally, provincially and nationally.
Calling all senior nursing administrators to incorporate eHealth as a priority at the "Nursing Leadership in the e–Health Era" Think TankOver 70 senior nursing administrative leaders were in attendance at the RNAO "Nursing Leadership in the e–Health Era" Think Tank held January 11, 2007 at the Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.
This Think Tank was part of the Nursing eHealth initiative undertaken by RNAO, on behalf of the nursing community, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
With the expertise of members of the Nursing eHealth Advisory Committee, the Informatics Nurses Interest Group (ONIG) and other key stakeholders the Nursing and eHealth project team is currently developing an education program on informatics and nursing.
This initiative is part of the RNAO Nursing and eHealth Project and is being led by Richard Booth. Richard is a Registered Nurse, and member of ONIG, who has just successfully defended his masters in nursing thesis focused on eLearning in nursing education.
