Nursing and eHealth Moving ForwardThe Nursing and eHealth project has had a very exciting and successful year as we completed the third phase of the initiative made possible through the generous support of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC).
This has enabled us to continue to advance nurses’ involvement in and support of eHealth adoption in health care.
Nursing and eHealth Champion Network Continues to Thrive!!The goal of this Network, which is modeled on the highly successful RNAO Best Practice Guidelines Champion Program, is to support understanding, acceptance and adoption of informatics in point-of-care activities for nurses and other members of the health team and to help identify effective support strategies for colleagues in the workplace.
The Nursing and eHealth project, funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, has sponsored the development of our 267 eHealth Champions.
The nurses involved in this role have been grateful for the knowledge gained in the eHealth Champion Workshops, the opportunity to contribute to eHealth in their own organizations and RNAO and the support from the eHealth Champion network.
Nursing and eHealth Education Course:Have you had a chance to take the Nursing and eHealth Education course?
Have you passed the link on to your colleagues?
The interactive Nursing and eHealth Education Course, has been developed to help you learn about eHealth and how it affects your daily practice as a nurse. It provides nurses with the necessary background information to appreciate how eHealth can enhance nursing practice and client care.
The RNAO Nursing and eHealth Toolkit will be a user-friendly blueprint for nurses and other healthcare professionals wishing to improve client care and health delivery through the use of eHealth.
The Toolkit will be framed from a socio-technical perspective to create a flexible guide for individuals and will attempt to reframe eHealth in terms of an innovation for practice, instead of an "IT project".
Creating a Virtual Community of Practice for Street NursingThe Change Foundation in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Nursing Secretariat has awarded researchers at McMaster University $105,000 to develop a virtual community of practice for street nursing.
Lead by Dyanne Semogas of McMaster University, School of Nursing and Claremont House Special Care Unit, and Ruta Valaitis of McMaster University, School of Nursing, the team includes Wendy Muckle (Ottawa Inner City Health), Cathy Crowe (Toronto Disaster Relief Committee), Noori Akhtar-Danesh (McMaster University), Anne Childs (Salvation Army Services Center, Hamilton), and Fiona Brooks (University of Hertfordshire, UK).
We have had incredibly positive feedback from nurses who have completed the Nursing and eHealth Education Course. Our most recent feedback comes from a Public Health nurse working in the Region of Waterloo who writes:
"I am at Module 5 and just loving this course... Its the first for me and the info is amazing in content, structure and user friendly to this older vintage of nurse."
The Nursing and eHealth project hopes that you and your colleagues had a wonderful Nursing Week 2008.
National Nursing Week, which runs from May 12th to May 18th, 2008 is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of both the nursing profession and individual nurses in their varied roles.
We hope you included Nursing and eHealth as you shared the variety of contributions nurses made to quality of care and quality in all roles and all sectors! Think You Know Nursing? eHealth is adding another dimension.
We hope you had a meaningful Nursing Week and thank you for all that you do!
Grand River Hospital eChampions at WorkIt is an exciting time for informatics at Grand River Hospital (GHR). As the awareness of the field grows so do the opportunities presented to us as eHealth Champions and informatics nurses.
Our first resolution for the New Year was to increase our profile within the hospital community.
The RNAO Nursing and eHealth project was delighted to read a recently published article written by eChampions.
This article, written by Jay Lynch, Clinical Telemedicine Program Coordinator/Manager - AV Services, Gabi Avni, Nursing Informatics Reflective Group Co-Chair and Ann Gilchrist, Centre for Nursing Excellence, NIRG Co- Chair, was published in The Ottawa Hospital newsletter.
Bringing BPGs to the Point of Care Through PDAsThe Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) is funding a one-year pilot project to bring evidence-based practice resources, such as RNAO’s best practice guidelines (BPGs), to front line nursing staff for use at the point of care through PDAs (personal digital assistants).
This project aims to improve access to information and enable integration of evidence into practice.
